This course is not COPE approved, but credits will be accepted by the PA State Board of Optometry for license renewal.Contact sports and Traumatic Brain Injury TBI is at epidemic levels. Optometrists and Comprehensive Eye Exams are a Primary entry point into the TBI Interprofessional Care System. The bumps, jolts or blows to the head is the primary cause of the potentially fatal disease Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy CTE. As a result, The National Football League NFL has implemented an NFL Head, Neck and Spine Committees Concussion Diagnosis and Management protocol. Optometrists need to be aware of this not only for professional athlete TBI assessment, but also to be able to properly assess, manage, advise and refer their patients for best care practices. This course will discuss TBI CTE and the NFL concussion protocol and how to implement recommendations into Primary Comprehensive Optometric Care.
